A good time to build?George Gaduzo
The UK is seeing a building boom in the domestic market. Extensions are going up everywhere. Good builders are all very busy. That means it is not the best time to build! Why? Its supply and demand. Builders can pick and choose and to a certain extent name their price. Like most peaks in building it will follow with a downward trend so don’t rush into those building projects. When it comes to getting quotations our advice is to get a schedule of works produced. This will cost but the arguments and claims for extras it can avoid make this money well spent. Never go for a quotation that is not broken down. Choose a contractor whose work you have seen and has letters of recommendation. Always agree a programme and stage payments that accord with the progress made. Never, never pay upfront. Seek the legal protection afforded by a recognised form of contract. If the contractor doesn’t won’t to work under contract ask yourself why?!
